.NP represents the official domain extension or the internet country code top level domain (ccTLD) of Nepal. It was created in 1995 and was intended for entities affiliated with Nepal. Registration for .COM.NP is not open to individuals or for personal use. Mercantile Communications Pvt. Ltd. is the authorized body for carrying out .NP’s registry.

.np domain names can be registered by any individual or organization having a bona fide connection with Nepal.
Nepal Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT), the registry has categorized the domains into the following types to restrict its usage.

The maximum number of characters that can be used in a .np domain name is 63 and a minimum of 3.
The .np domain name must start with a letter or a digit, be followed by any number of letters, digits, and hyphens. The only other valid characters are periods (.), which separate the parts of your domain name.
You have to follow the below steps to register a .np domain name.
- Firstly, you must find out whether the desired label is available or not. For this, you have to visit www.nic.np and type your chosen label in the "Domain Name" field and press "Check Availability".
On results, you will find availability of that particular label with different Sub-Level Domain (SLD).
- Once the desired label is available for registration, you must register it within 90 days of its availability. If this period lapses without any registration, then the desired domain name may be made available again to the general public.
Secondly, you have to apply for a .np domain name. After applying, your application will be reviewed by the concerned Domain Name Committee.
After that, you will receive an email from NIC with the subject "ICANN Authentication" containing an authentication code along with other details about your domain name.
- If your domain name is registered under the .np top-level domain, you will have to renew it before the expiration date in order to retain its ownership and avoid any late fees.
Thus, your domain name will be registered successfully.
